Abstract:
The subject of expected estimate accuracy is guaranteed to be a subject of debate among cost engineering professionals and there are different opinions and viewpoints. Some have called the term “estimate accuracy” to be an oxymoron, meaning it is a contradiction of terms.
This is a presentation of the upcoming AACE recommended practice titled "Understanding Expected Estimate Accuracy". The presentation will walk through the identification of an estimate as a range of potential values, discuss the typical shape of the probability distribution associated with the estimate range, identify the concept of estimate contingency, and identify the elements required to convey information about estimate accuracy to stakeholders.
Whether you are explaining an estimate, or being presented an estimate, this presentation will provide a better understanding of estimate accuracy and what it really means.
